The weather is starting to get hotter and sunnier, meaning that a lot of us who have started working out from home more often this year are going to be experiencing a whole new level of discomfort. However, with that comes a real risk of dehydration. Here, we’re going to look at how to make sure you’re able to stay hydrated and safe while working out from home in the summer.

Be aware of the signs
If you know you’re getting dehydrated while working out, you should stop, take a drink, and rest a moment. There are plenty of signs to follow. Muscle cramps are a good sign. If you pinch your skin and it doesn’t return to normal quickly, then you’re likely dehydrated. If your mouth is feeling dry or you’re feeling thirsty at all, then you should take a drink. Don’t drink too much at once, but rather maintain high levels of hydration as best as you can.
Drink plenty
It should be no surprise that the single best tip for avoiding dehydration is to drink water or sports drinks while you’re working out. As soon as you feel thirsty, you should start sipping. During exercise, you’re going to be sweating more, meaning that you should also be drinking more. Good sports drinks can be helpful because they don’t just replace water, they also replace the electrolytes that we tend to sweat out.
Protect yourself from the sun
The heat of the sun directly absorbs water content from your skin, drying it out. It also raises the temperature of the body, meaning that you’re going to be sweating more. No matter what your skin tone is, you should make sure that you’re wearing a decent SPF sunscreen that protects you from both UV-A and UV-B rays. Hydrate your skin after you get washed up with a decent moisturizing cream for your skin, as well.
Create a cool environment
If you want to make sure that you’re getting all the hydration that you need throughout the day, then you’re less likely to get dehydrated when you’re working out. There is no set rule for how many liters of water a day will keep you going, but there are hydration apps that can help you track your consumption throughout the day based on your needs, your body, and how active you have been.
You’re going to be moving around a lot, so some sweat should be expected. However, the hotter your environment, the more you’re going to be sweating. For that reason, try working out earlier in the day before the sun is in the sky and invest in some emergency AC repair if you need to help your rooms cool down more quickly. Avoid working out directly beneath the sun in the afternoon or early evening.
How much should you drink?
With the tips above, hopefully, you can take care of yourself, stay safe, and make sure you’re always well hydrated during and after a workout. Few things are important to both staying healthy and getting good results from your exercises.
