How to build a healthy relationship with money

AD| We are currently in the middle of a financial nightmare – with the cost of living increasing and doubts cast on the government’s ability to help us navigate our way through this treacherous time, many people are struggling with their money mindset.

A few years ago, I was terrible with money. I never knew how much money I had and I was just spending blindly. Some months I’d be in my overdraft, some months I wouldn’t, but most months I simply wouldn’t know.

I’ve come a long way since then with my relationship with money. Here are some tips for how you can have a healthy money mindset.

Know your financial situation

The most important thing is to know your financial situation. Burying your head in the sand will not help you feel better. Make sure you know what money is in your account and what is due to go out every month so there are no nasty surprises.

Audit your direct debits and subscription

We live in a subscription world these days and it’s so easy to subscribe to something and then not use it. Sit down and have a look through your subscriptions and see if there is anything you can cancel – that money can be used for something else or saved!

Fix before throwing

If something needs fixing, rather than replacing it straight away, try to fix it. There are tutorials on how to fix almost anything else days on YouTube. Be careful about fixing gas and electrical products though – this will need a professional to be safe. But things like fixing jewellery can be done, just find some jewellery tools uk and you can get started right away.

Have a backup plan

If you had an unexpected expense, do you have a backup plan? Everyone should have an emergency fund – an amount of money tucked away so if you need some money on short notice, it’s there. Think about if your washing machine broke or your car failed its MOT – could you cover the cost?

If you haven’t saved up an emergency fund yet, then look into what credit you could access for a short-term solution. Getting cardless credit can really help in an emergency.

Use affirmations

How we think about money is often subconscious, and negative thoughts about money can lead to a negative financial state. But, if you replace those negative thoughts with affirmations about spending money, you can change your mindset.

Changing your mindset about money can help you boost your financial health and lead to a more positive outlook in life.

Here are some affirmations you could use to change your mindset:

  1. I am worthy of the wealth I desire.
  2. I am financially free.
  3. I am grateful for the money I have.
  4. Money comes to me in expected and unexpected ways.
  5. I am open to receiving money.
  6. I attract money easily and effortlessly.
  7. I am worthy of financial success.
  8. I am an excellent money manager.
  9. I spend money only on things I love.
  10. I deserve to make more money.
  11. I think about money positively.
  12. Money is openly flowing into my life.
  13. I release all blocks and allow wealth to flow in.
  14. I always have enough money.
  15. I believe there is enough money for everyone.
  16. I am the master of my wealth.
  17. I am able to handle large sums of money.
  18. Money creates a positive impact on my life and the life of others.
  19. I get rich doing what I love.
  20. I am grateful for all the money I have now.
  21. I have a positive money mindset.
  22. I am grateful that I can contribute my money to the economy.
  23. I have the power to attract wealth and money into my life.

How is your money mindset?
